ACAP and Annapurna Region
Introduced early on 1986 , the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) ,the very first conservation area and also the largest protected area in Nepal covering an area of 7,629 sq. km. ACAP is also the largest undertaking of National Trust for Nature Conservation(NTNC) which is home to different cultural and linguistic groups. ACAP generally refers to the variety and variability of life on Earth generally consists of 1,226 species of flowering plants, 102 mammals, 474 birds, 39 reptiles and 22 amphibians.

It contains world’s deepest river gorge- Kali gandaki gorge, a valley with fossils from the Tethys Sea. The region also contains world’s largest rhododendron forest. Additionally Annapurna Region is the first protected area which has refrained from using the army to protect the natural resources based on area it depends. Well every dwindling natural resources are under the protection of army in Nepal which is basically good thing. Make sure they are in safer hand. There has been no regular funding support from the government for the operation of Region but the permission has been granted to take the particular fees from trekker that helps for well development of Annapurna Region. Additional fund are raised from national and international donors as well. This is an exemplary achievement for such a non-government organization to manage a protected area system in Nepal.
