Gokyo Lake Trekking offers excellent and rewarding views of Mount Everest in the adjacent range including the valleys. Gokyo lake is famously named as Dudh Pokhari, which means milk like water. lush rivers, amazing sherpa people in quaint villages make this trek more exciting. From Gokyo Ri, you can clearly see  Mount Everest from a slightly greater distance.

The views in the Gokyo region are tremendous. You will observe the romantic villages of stone houses and walled pastures on the shores of Gokyo Lake. It offers you the chance to observe the local people’s way of life and also you may encounter yaks. During the trail, you will be surprise by the ice ridges. The ice ridges can be seen in Cho Oyu and Gyanchung location of Khumbu region. Gokyo Lake trekking provides panoramic views of Cho Oyu, Gyanchung Kang, Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cholatse, and Tawachee.

There is 5 lake system in Gokyo valley, Dudh Pokhari is the main lake with an area of 106 acres. The second lake  Thonak Cho is the largest lake with an area of 160.8 acres. Third lake Gyazumpa Cho is 72 acres in size, followed by Tanjung Cho with an area of 41.9 acres, and Ngojumba Cho with an area of 35.6 acres. But, during the Gokyo lake trekking, you will pass through only 3 lakes on this general itinerary. If you want to explore the fourth and fifth lake, we have another itinerary for that.

The religious significance of the Gokyo lake is sacred for both Hindu and Buddhist communities. People take bath and the lake and worship lord Vishnu during the festivals. There is a belief that Naag Devata ( Snake God) resides in the lake, where wildlife, flora and fauna are protected in this peaceful valley.

Gokyo lake trekking has added benefit for the trekkers. They can do one of the highest pass Cho-la (5,420 m.) which one cannot do doing just only Everest basecamp trekking.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  2. climb Gokyo ri (5357m) for scenic view of Everest, cho oyu and Lhotse.
  3. return back through renjo la pass (5340m), one of beautiful pass of Nepal.
  4. hike along ngozumpa glacier, largest glacier in Himalaya.
  5. avoid the crowd and choose best place for view.
