This five lakes are:
1.Shey-Phoksundo lake(3,589m).
2.Tilicho lake(4,919m).

SHEY-PHOKSUNDO LAKE:-
Shey Phoksundo lake is most decorated and popular trek destination for young people in recent time. This region is gaining recognition from the people of Nepal and foreigners. Shey Phoksundo lake is located in far-west Nepal of Dolpo district, this place comes under Shey Phoksundo national park. Phoksundo covers the area of 1.91 square mile and its length is 5.15 km. It lies at an elevation of 3,589 meters above sea level beside the traditional Ringmo village, this lake is one of the deepest lake of Nepal. The maximum depth of the lake is 145 meters making it one of the deepest high altitude lakes in the entire globe.
Phoksundo lake is situated in upper Dolpo region of Dolpo district. Upper Dolpo comes under the restricted areas of Nepal. so, you need a restricted area permit before exploring this lake. About 2 days of walk from Juphal airport, Dolpo district will take you to this beautiful heaven on earth.
An extra day will be required to explore some of the major places near the Phoksundo lake. The lake is surrounded by 20 monasteries on all sides. marvelous views of the lake can be seen from the top of the monasteries.
It is believed that a demoness had a run in with a rival upstream. Besides that, it is also believed that one of the demons brought down an entire mountain. The mountain blocks the Suligad River making it one of the deepest lakes situated at a high altitude.
Shey Phoksundo national park is one of the biggest trans- Himalayan national park which is spread from elevation of 2,130m to 6,885m. Total 286 species are found here of different variety of flower.
Shey Phoksundo is home for rare animals. Some of the common wild animals that can be found inside the Shey Phoksundo National Park include musk deer, grey wolf, snow leopard and blue sheep. Besides that, some of other mammals such as Himalayan thar, Tibetan sheep, jackal and Himalayan black bear are also found inside the national park.
Some of the other attraction we can get to feel around this trek will be traditional village with there own architecture design of houses. Pre Buddhist culture is followed by the locals and Ringmo village explore.
TILICHO LAKE:-
Tilicho lake is one of the high altitude lake located in the Annapurna region of Himalayas. Tilicho lake is present in manang district of gandaki state. Pokhara is the place from which the route of Tilicho trek passes. In the past few years this trek route is becoming popular among the youngster of nepal and the world. This region is also popular as a side trek of Annapurna region.
Tilicho lake is situated at altitude of 4,919m above sea level and it is fresh water lake. Lake covers almost 4.8 square km and length is 4 km.
Religious significance for Hindus believe that Tilicho Lake is the ancient Kak Bhusundi Lake mentioned in the epic Ramayana.[4] The sage Kak Bhusundi is believed to have first told the happenings of Ramayana to Garuda – king of birds, near this lake. The sage took the form of a crow while telling the story to Garuda. Crow translates to Kak in Sanskrit, hence the name Kak Bhusndi for the sage.
The mountains surrounding this lake are Khangsar, Muktinath peak, Nilgiri, and Tilicho. This mountain add extra beauty to this region.
RARA LAKE:-
Lake Rara is situated in karnali state of western Nepal. Rara is situated at altitude of 2,990m above sea level in mugu district. This place is surrounded by small hills and mountains which increase the beauty of lake.
This beautiful natural lake is oval in shape with the longest length of 5.1 km, a maximum width of 3 km, a surface area of 10.8 km2, and 167 m in depth. The highest point of the national Park is the Chuchemara peak which is at 4097m elevation. The unique landscapes and the Rara lake are major attractions of the national Park for foreign and domestic tourists. Rara Lake in Rara National Park was declared wetlands of international importance under the Ramsar Convention in 2007.
Rara lake is surrounded by magnificent conifer forests. The lake is connected to around 20 small tributaries coming from all around the lake. The color of the lake depends upon the sky that’s why the lake color looks like changing from time to time. The lake water is so clean and resembles the freshwater ecosystem with three endemic species of snow trout and little vegetation around the lake edges. The snow trout (Schizothorax raraensis) is endemic to this lake. During winter, about 49 species of migratory birds can be seen in the lake. The elevation of the rara national park ranges from 1800m to 4097m.
The nearest village from the Rara lake and the park headquarter is Murma.
PHEWA LAKE:-
Phewa lake is one of the popular lake among the internal and external tourist. This lake is present in tourism capital of Nepal i.e. pokhara valley. Pokhara city is located in kaski district of gandaki state and it is also the head of the state. Phewa lake is at altitude of 742m from sea level.lake has a panoramic view of Machhapuchhre and Annapurna Himal. These scenes bring joy to everyone’s mind. The view of the sunrise and sunset is also very stunning and makes the mind happy.
It is the second largest lake in Nepal and largest lake in Pokhara. The lake is also famous for its reflection of Machhapuchhre, Annapurna and Dhaulagiri and other mountain peaks, which can be seen clearly in the water of this lake.
Many poets have written about Pokhara beauty and Phewa Lake in their works. Many songs have become popular on pokhara beauty. There have been many descriptions of Pokhara and its beauty in essays, stories, and novels. Those who have reached Pokhara once are repeatedly called by Phewa Lake. Probably because of this, some foreign nationals have given up their homeland citizenship and made Pokhara a place to spend the latter part of their lives.
The experience of boating in the Phewa Lake from one side to the other is priceless. There is a line of boats around the lake, a lake temple i.e., Tal Barahi Temple in the middle, and the blue water will make your face shine. The cool breeze around the lake makes your heart flutter.
GOSAIKUNDA LAKE:-
If you are intrepid traveler or you love to travel remote place with some adventure then gosaikunda is where you should go. This place is at high altitude it offer the best destination the Nepal can give to traveler. Gosaikunda lake is situated at altitude of 4,380m above seal level at gosaikunda national park in Rasuwa district of Nepal. To reach Gosaikunda national park we can go through rasuwa, nuwakot and shindupalchowk. Gosaikunda is a famous name for the purest holy lake.
It is also known for the sacred lake in Hindu religion because of a historical belief that connects the lake to Lord Shiva, the god of power and destruction in Hindu scripture. As this sacred lake is constantly spreading its divine blessing to the people. Most of the people believe that Lord Shiva, who meditate for several years in a Himalaya of Nepal and Tibet, took a bath in this lake for acquiring purity of soul. So people of Hindu religion follow the same rituals to purify their souls through various sins. Especially in the month of Shrawan, people of Nepal celebrate the Janai-Purnima (a very famous festival of Nepal) and on that day there at Gosaikunda seems filled with devotees. On this very special day there attends a religious mela (Nepali Carnival) by Hindus and do celebrate with Buddhist community as well. This day pilgrim whoever visit this mela changes their Janais- the sacred thread worn around the body or on the wrist by the Hindus but before this all the devotees take bath and pay to homage and worship to Lord Shiva. This means their sin, sorrow, and pain are assumed to wash off by the pure water of this lake.
Gosaikunda Lake was derived or believed to have been created by Lord Shiva when he thrust his Trishula (Trident) into a mountain to extract water to calm over his poisoning throat. There is a large rock between the lake and people still believe that it’s a Shiva shrine. There’s one that also believes people with a pure soul can see the reflection of Lord Shiva that’s lying under the water. As per Hindu scriptures Vishnu Purana, Bhagavata Purana, and the epics Mahabharata and Ramayana refer to Samudra Manthan is directly related to the origin of Gosaikunda and has explained so well.
There are altogether 108 Kundas (Lakes) around this area which mainly are Saraswati Kunda, Bhairab Kunda, Surya Kunda, Naga Kunda and Gosaikunda (Lakes) which seems most popular among the Pilgrims.
This lake is famous for its trekking destination among all the age group its the worth it destination. next time don’t forget to add in your list.
